Sustainable Structures was founded in 2007 with a vision to change the way homes are built and lived in. We have always believed the home should not only be a place to live, but should reflect the lifestyle of the occupants as well as the local site and environmental conditions. Our mission is to provide high performance, energy efficient and environmentally conscious construction services for Marquette, Mi and surrounding areas.
Founder, Mike Hainstock spent much of his childhood helping his parents and grandparents build, tinker and repair items and remodel their homes. At the young age of 19, Mike purchased and renovated a small 325sf home near Marquette. In 2007 Mike Recieved his Mi Residential Builders License and founded and operated Sustainable Structures as a solo handyman/carpenter business from that small house for several years.
With the economic downturn of 2008, and stricter regulations for renovation contractors, Mike took a hiatus from the company to pursue other work.
In 2010, Mike and his partner Beth purchased their current home. After several years working for and learning from other local builders, Mike and his partner were able to design and complete a high performance ground up remodel and addition of their home over the 2017 building season.
After experiencing first hand the shortage of skilled builders and remodelers, Mike decided to restart the company in 2018 as a way to attract and train skilled workers locally, and provide homeowners with high performance building, remodeling and home repair services.
Our schedule is filling quickly for this season. Contact us today to begin your next home repair or renovation project.
